Description

A medium-sized species of frog reaching up to 4 cm in body length. It has a bright green or olive-green back, which can become very dark when the frog is inactive. There is a gold or silver stripe that extends from the tip of the snout to the eye, then around the top of the eye to along the side. There is also a black stripe beginning from the eye that follows underneath the silver or gold stripe. The belly is white. The pupil is horizontal and the iris is gold. The armpits, groin and backs of the thighs are dark purple-red. Fingers are only slightly webbed and toes are nearly fully webbed, both with large discs.

Breeding Biology

Eggs are laid loosely in small groups and attached to vegetation on, or just below, the surface of the water in creek and stream pools, and slow-flowing stream sections. Tadpoles can reach a total length of up to 3.5 cm and are dark or light gold-brown in colour, with gold specks. They often remain at the bottom of streams and avoid the fast flowing sections. It is unknown how long they take to develop into frogs, but are likely similar to Litoria phyllochroa, taking at least 2 months. Breeds during spring to summer.

Similar Species

Looks very similar to Litoria barringtonensis, Litoria kroombitensis, Litoria piperata, Litoria phyllochroa and Litoria pearsoniana, but has a different distribution. These species can be distinguished most easily by their different calls and distributions, although research is currently underway at the Australian Museum that may reveal more about how to distinguish them. Also looks similar to Litoria spenceri in its distribution, but has smoother skin and different side colours.
